The owners of Ohio wineries would never say, Ohio wines have been kicking the grape juice out of California, Oregon and Washington wines at recent national events.

So we thought we need to say it.

Annually, this states wineries attract hundreds of thousands of resident Ohio wine enthusiasts and also eager wine tourists. Historians will tell you, the wineries in Ohio are legendary!!!  Wineries in Ohio first began producing wine in the early 1800′s and up until the Civil War the wineries and vineyards in Ohio produced both the most gallons of wine and the highest quality of wine in America.

Yes, it’s hard to believe but it’s true, for many decades Ohio was unquestionably the king of wine in the United States. But unforeseeable events such as: grape rot disease, the Civil War and then alcohol prohibition crippled the Ohio Wine industry. It took many, many years for the Ohio wine industry to recover but there has been a huge resurgence in Ohio wines, which started in the 1970′s and came to fruition in the early 1990′s.

The resurgence in the early 1990s, began when a Ohio Riesling wine was recognized as the best in show at the very prestigious Sari Francisco State fair wine competition. The momentum of this performance continued, seeing other Ohio wines winning gold medals in other major wine events across the United States! The performances at these national events has caused the Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, sweet wines, and ice wines produced in Ohio to finally and once again receive their deserved accolades and finally being mentioned with the best wines not only the United States but also in the world!

Ohio Winery Advantage

The Ohio temperature and soil profiles in Ohio are very similar to the greatest wine producing regions in Europe.  And also throughout the state of Ohio many different micro-climates exist.   The combination of these characteristics makes Ohio a perfect region for growing a variety of high quality wine grapes.  An top of these environmental advantages, many expert winemakers call Ohio home.  This is a winning combination for wine in the Buckeye State.

The wineries in Ohio offer more than just great Ohio wine. Visiting an Ohio winery is definitely an educational experience. Most of the wineries in Ohio offer educational day trips, where you will learn the chemistry of grapes and wine making.  You will also learn the history of wine in Ohio.

Extremely interesting stuff. This is a great learning experience for adults and children. So take a tour of the inside of an Ohio winery and an outside tour of  the vineyard.  You will not regret spending your day doing so. Everyone will understand if you are just looking to relax.  Whether relaxing by yourself or with friends and family, a visit to a winery is welcoming and relaxing experience. It would be hard to find a more relaxing place in Ohio, than in one of their wineries.

If you are hungry, many of the wineries in Ohio also have great restaurants attached. These attached restaurants, offer great food, atmosphere, and a great patios where you can dine or just sit and sip on Ohio wine and enjoy the nature around you.  If you visit one winery, you will be back.

Locations of Ohio wineries

There are an abundance of wineries in Ohio. There seems to be some discrepancy on how many wineries are actually in Ohio. Depending on the Ohio wine expert, some say there are 75 wineries, others say they’re are about 130, and still others have put the number of Ohio wineries in operation as high as 150. It’s said, every resident of Ohio is at the furthest 45 minutes from a winery. There are wineries in Southwest Ohio (better known as the Ohio wine valley),Southeast OhioCentral OhioNortheast Ohio  (many Cleveland wineries) and Northwest Ohio. So no matter where you are in Ohio there is sure to be an Ohio winery within a short driving distance. There is nothing better than visiting these wineries and enjoying a glass of Ohio wine!

Becker Vineyards – Stonewall TX

by admin on April 27, 2013

A couple days ago I received an email from a lady who was moving to Stonewall, Texas, who was afraid of new surroundings and asked what she could do to make new friends in her new environment.

We emailed back and forth, I was asking her what activities she enjoyed or if she had any hobbies. It turned out she was an amateur wine maker and also enjoyed having a good glass of wine from time to time.

This was my recommendation

Becker Vineyards 464 Becker Farms Road Stonewall, TX 78671.

This really is a tremendous winery in central Texas

What you will find here

6 red wines, 8 white wines. Among these wines you will find a handful that were good enough to win awardss at major wine judging competitions.

The price of a bottle of wines: The majority of their wines are priced between $14-22. You will find some that are both under $14 and over $22

If your looking for a winery in west Texas to purchase good wine - A lot of the wines at Becker Vineyards sell out quickly. Sucks when they are sold out and you cant get them but this is also a sign of a great winery to buy wine from.

What else can you find at Becker Vineyard

They have a wine club. If you like their wine and could imagine ordering these wine deliveries to your house, you may want to take a look at the benefits of joining their wine club. I believe you receive 20% all wine purchases, 10% off merchandise.

Tours of both the winery operations and also tours of the vineyard where the grapes are grown.

More information on Becker Vineyards

If it is really important for you to learn more about this vineyard/winery before you get in the car to visit there are three places where you can get solid information.

These review sites have a lot of information from past visitors. Way more than I could provide on my own. And the good thing about these reviews of Becker Vineyards is one of the sites above has over 90 entries and the other has over 100. It sucks when there’s only 1 or 2 customer reviews entered because this could just mean the owners or a friend put one up.

Or you could also go to Becker Vineyards site itself.

Click on the marker you see on the map and enter your address for directions to this Central Texas vineyard.
